Cycle to freedom Waterbike itinerary

Enjoy the feeling of freedom as you set off on your Waterbike.

You’ll see that Rottnest is best viewed from the water and that riding on a Waterbike gives you an awesome vantage point to enjoy Rottnest’s stunning marine environment and the limestone cliffs and sights on shore.

There’ll be plenty of opportunity to stop, relax and take it all in.  Your guide will also ensure you get some iconic photos along the way.  Be the envy of your friends when you share a snap of yourself cruising on your bright yellow Waterbike past Rottnest’s famous Bathurst Lighthouse. An adventure to remember!

Before we head off on your Rottnest Island tour …

  • Meet 10 minutes before your scheduled tour time. at North Thomson Bay, right next to the ferry jetty and the Visitor Centre.
  • Our friendly guides will welcome you and other fellow Waterbikers.
  • We will brief you on all safety matters, fit you with a lifejacket and get you used to the Waterbike before we head off on our adventure.

Participation Requirments

  • Participant height minimum 140cm tall (normally 10 + years old).
  • Children under 15 are to be accompanied by adult.
  • Children under 18 to have signed consent from adult.
  • Maximum weight of participant – 120kg.
  • All participants will be required to sign a waiver and indicate required medical information.
  • All safety instructions are delivered in English only. Participants will need to have a sufficient level of English to be able to understand safety instructions.
  • Participants must be able to tread water for 5 minutes while wearing a PFD.
  • Participants must not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • All participants must wear a PFD at all times. Refusal to wear a PFD will result in your removal from the tour.

Hat & sunscreen, comfortable clothing, board shorts or active wear recommended.

What to Bring

A water bottle and sense of adventure.

We provide you will a dry bag for your basic essentials, like a phone or keys.

Your guide is skilled at capturing all the fantastic photo opportunities so you wont need your phone however we can provide you with a waterproof phone case should you wish to take your own photos

Things to know about your Rottnest Island tour

Our Waterbikes are incredibly safe and stable, however they have a weight restriction of 120kg. Waterbike seats are adjustable for different leg lengths. For this reason we recommend no children under the age of 10 for our tours. Our Waterbikes glide through the water with little resistance so high levels of physical fitness are not required.

All tours are subject to weather and may need to be cancelled at short notice due to adverse wind, swell or other weather conditions. There are numerous options for routes depending on weather conditions.

If we do cancel, customers will be advised by text message and email and customers will be offered another tour time.

If you don’t want to reschedule, payment will be refunded.

As weather conditions can change quickly communication regarding the cancellation of tours could be as late as the morning of your tour so please keep an eye on your emails and text messages.

Cancellation received within 24 hours of tour will not receive a refund.

Cancellation within 24 – 48 hours will incur a 50% cancellation fee.

Do I need any experience to join the tour?

Our Rottnest Island tour is suitable for beginners. Our experienced tour guides will give you a comprehensive Waterbike and safety induction before commencing the tour. Additionally they will be with you every step of the way and will assist you if needed.

Do I need to know how to swim to join your tour?

It is not necessary that you know how to swim to join our tour.  You will be wearing a life jacket for the duration of the tour.

Do I need to be fit to join your tour?

Our tours are conducted at a leisurely pace to accommodate for most fitness levels. There are plenty of stops along the way and time to enjoy the scenery and learn about the Island.

Can my children join the Waterbike tour?

The minimum height required for the Waterbikes is 140cm which means children from the age of 10 can participate.

What if the weather is not right on the day I booked my tour?

We will keep the weather monitored at all times and will wait until the last minute to make weather decisions. In the case we do need to cancel a tour due to weather conditions (only in the case of very high winds, swell or a storm) we will offer rescheduling options, and if unsuitable we will offer a full refund.

How fast do the Waterbikes go?

The Waterbikes can go up to 15 km/hr however we like to take the tour at a leisurely pace to accommodate all participants. There is always an opportunity to cycle back and for the for those wanting a bit more of a workout!

How stable are the Waterbikes?

The catamaran configuration provides huge stability and it is virtually impossible for you to fall into the water.  Unlike Stand Up Paddle boards and normal bicycles, the Waterbike does not require balance.

Where can I find my tours photos?

We will upload your tours photos in the Albums section of our Facebook page within one week from the tours date.

What do I need to bring to the tour?

You don’t need to bring much other than a sense of adventure and the bare essentials. Hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a water bottle. A life jacket will be provided for all participants. A dry bag is provided to put your belongings in. Dry bags are limited in size so keep items to a minimum.  Your guide will take photos and videos of you on the tour, so relax and enjoy the experience.

Do I wear shoes?

Keep in mind that your feet will get wet when getting on and off the water bike so water shoes, sandals or bare feet are recommended.

Can I pay for my tour with cash or EFTPOS on the spot?

All bookings are to be made online (debit cards, credit cards and PayPal payments accepted), we do not accept payments on the spot. However we do have a tablet available for you to use to make your own online booking under the marquee at our location on North Thomson Bay.

What if for personal reasons I need to cancel my booking, can I get a refund?

If you cancel 48 hours or more prior to the tour we will process a full refund, if you cancel within 24 and 48 hours prior to the tour we will process a 50% refund, but if you cancel less than 24 hours prior to the tour we wont offer any refund.

Can we arrange a Private Tour?
